Cutting Practice with Scissors Kindergarten - Fall Faves Themed

Start with the basics cutting straight lines.

This is the perfect activity for helping your child get a feel for how to hold and use scissors.

Cut a few pieces of paper into strips, then let your child practice cutting along the lines.

Get creative with curves.

Cutting curved lines is a bit more challenging than straight ones, but it's still doable for most kindergartners.

Cut out some template shapes (circles, triangles, etc) then let your child trace around them and cut out the curves.

Cut different materials.

Paper isn't the only thing that can be cut with scissors - try letting your child also practice on construction paper, felt, or even cloth scraps.

This will help them learn how to adjust their grip and pressure based on the material they're working with.

Make it a race! See who can cutsomize daily objects the fastest by giving each player several items to cut up (paper cups, straws, napkins).

The goal is to see who can turn their pile of random objects into something new and interesting the quickest - have fun!

To make things more challenging you could time each player or set a limit on how many cuts they're allowed per object.

Try some open-ended scissor activities.

If you're looking for something a little less structured, try giving your child some open-ended scissor activities like making scrapbooking.

This will allow them to experiment with different cutting techniques and use their imagination.

There are tons of fun scissor-cutting activities for kindergarten students!

These activities will not only help your students practice their cutting skills, but they'll also love doing them.
